LADY DIANA SPENCER
Lady Diana Spencer met HRH Prince Charles at a polo match in 1980 when she was working as a kindergarten teacher. They were married on 29th July 1981 at St Paul's Cathedral in a ceremony watched by a worldwide TV audience of 750 million people. However the marriage was not to be a happy one. Newspapers reports revealing details of both partners' infidelities began to appear in the early 1990s. The couple's amicable separation was announced in 1992 and they were divorced in 1996. Diana's death in a car crash in Paris on 31st August 1997 provoked a public outpouring a grief rarely seen in England, along with conspiracy theories that she had been murdered, which abound to this day. Diana was known for her charity work, particularly involving land mines.
